Study Uncovers More Than 80% of Alternative Healing Books on E-commerce Platform Probably Written by Automated Systems
An extensive investigation has uncovered that AI-generated content has penetrated the alternative medicine book category on Amazon, including products advertising cognitive support gingko formulas, fennel "tummy-soothing syrups", and citrus-based wellness chews.
Disturbing Findings from Automation Identification Research
Per scanning 558 titles released in Amazon's alternative therapies category between the first three quarters of the current year, analysts found that over four-fifths were likely authored by artificial intelligence.
"This represents a concerning revelation of the sheer scope of unlabelled, unverified, unsupervised, probably AI content that has thoroughly penetrated this marketplace," stated the analysis's main contributor.
Specialist Concerns About Artificially Produced Medical Information
"There is a huge amount of natural remedy studies available currently that's absolutely rubbish," said a medical herbalist. "Artificial intelligence will not understand the method of separating through all the dross, all the rubbish, that's of absolutely no consequence. It might lead people astray."

One of the apparently AI-created publications, Natural Healing Handbook, currently holds the most popular spot in Amazon's dermatology, essential oil treatments and alternative therapies categories. The publication's beginning touts the volume as "a toolkit for self-trust", advising consumers to "turn inward" for solutions.
Doubtful Creator Credentials
The creator is named as an unverified writer, whose marketplace listing portrays the author as a "mid-thirties remedy specialist from the beachside location of Byron Bay" and establishment figure of the brand a natural remedies business. Nevertheless, neither the writer, the enterprise, or related organizations appear to have any internet existence apart from the platform listing for the title.
Recognizing Artificially Produced Material
Investigation noted several warning signs that indicate potential AI-generated alternative healing content, including:
- Liberal utilization of the leaf emoji
- Botanical-inspired creator pseudonyms like Botanical terms, Nature words, and Herbal terms
- Mentions to questionable herbalists who have promoted unproven treatments for significant diseases
Wider Trend of Unverified Automated Material
These books represent a broader pattern of unchecked automated text available for purchase on the marketplace. In recent times, foraging enthusiasts were advised to steer clear of mushroom guides available on the marketplace, ostensibly written by chatbots and containing unreliable guidance on how to discern poisonous fungi from edible varieties.
Demands for Control and Identification
Industry leaders have requested the platform to begin identifying artificially created content. "Any book that is fully AI-created should be marked as AI-generated and low-quality AI content should be removed as an urgent priority."
Reacting, the company stated: "We maintain listing requirements controlling which books can be made available for purchase, and we have active and responsive processes that help us detect content that violates our guidelines, regardless of whether artificially created or otherwise. We dedicate substantial manpower and funds to ensure our requirements are complied with, and eliminate publications that do not conform to those standards."
