Indianapolis Colts Face Atlanta Falcons in Berlin – NFL Week 10

Hello, fussball fans. Wie gehts? Alles klar I hope on this fine early start to the tenth week coming directly from Deutschland. Berlin's Olympic Stadium to be exact where at 9:30 AM EST and 2:30 PM GMT the mighty Indianapolis Colts (seven wins and two losses) face off against the Atlanta Falcons (three wins and five losses). The fifth game played on German soil and the first in the nation’s capital.

Pregame Key Moments

As sparkly jackets go that is an absolute belter from the Olympic figure skater on the opening flip. A slight fluff from Sky Sports there as we hear “who won the toss?” from the commentator with an unfortunately hot mic.

So, the Colts have won the toss and have elected to receive. The Colts' offense will be setting up shortly. Can the quarterback recover after a rough one in their last game?

Not to be outdone the singer belting out the US national anthem has some of the biggest shoulder embellishments you are ever likely to see. The fashion picks are impressive today. We are almost underway after a choir performance for the German anthem. Classy.

First Quarter Action

Scoreless at 13:30 in the first

And we're off! And we have an exciting start after Jonathan Taylor receives a short throw, sweeps out for 15 yards to the right then fumbles … only for his center to recover the fumble with the ball retrieval. Colts are in Falcons territory already.

Colts 0-0 Falcons 10:51, 1st quarter

And the excitement continues as the Colts go for it on 4th down. The risk doesn't work out as the wide receiver cannot reel in a quick pass from Jones. On the play before the turnover on downs the Falcons defender put a huge hit on the Colts' tight end. The Falcons have come out fighting on defense as they attempt to end their string of three losses. Following that, Sauce Gardner makes his first appearance!

Touchdown Recap

TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-0 Falcons 8:36, 1st quarter

Did Kyle Pitts just drop a touchdown? The tight end drops a clanger, he was wide open but the ball just swishes through his hands. That play rather sums up the high draft pick's professional journey to date.

A disappointing start but it only gets worse for the Atlanta as they turn over possession to the Indianapolis on the 23-yard line. The Falcons quarterback is hunted down and can’t keep hold of the ball.

A nifty 22-yard run from Ashton Dulin sets Jonathan Taylor up to roll in for the score on the following play. Kicker Michael Badgley skews the extra point wide. Oops.

Falcons respond: 6-7 at 6:07

Penix Jr puts the fumble behind him by marching his Falcons down the field for a touchdown. The wide receiver makes some substantial catches to put them in the red zone then the seas part for the running back to run untouched into the end zone through the middle of the defense for 13 yards. The running back finishes it off for a short scoring run of his own. Advantage Atlanta.

Other Tenth Week Games

And for afters, the full slate starting at 1 PM EST and 6 PM GMT (with home teams first) is as follows:

  • (5-4) Carolina Panthers v Saints (1-8)

  • (5-3) Chicago Bears v New York Giants (2-7)

  • (3-5) Houston Texans v Jaguars (5-3)

  • (2-7) Dolphins v Buffalo Bills (6-2)

  • (4-4) Vikings v Ravens (3-5)

  • (1-7) Jets v Cleveland Browns (2-6)

  • (6-2) Tampa Bay Buccaneers v Patriots (7-2)

What a feast. I’m planting my flag on Minnesota and Baltimore playing out the top contest of the day.
