A woman accused with stalking Kate McCann apparently recorded her a phone message which asked: "imagine I am Madeleine?"

The defendant, twenty-four, who a jury heard has repeatedly declared she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial charged with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told phone records and information obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a biological test during 2023 and 2024.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is among the most covered child disappearance cases and continues to be unresolved.

'I Am Not Seeking Money'

Another recorded message, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm overweight and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I know what I know."

While one recording of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's recording expressed: "Imagine there is a slight possibility that I'm her? Then what? Is that not crucial for you?"

"I don't want money, I have a living here in Poland, I just want to discover," the recording stated.

The tribunal was told that by means of electronic messages, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt asked for a genetic test, transmitted early photographs to her phone in a effort to show a likeness to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and claimed to have "recollections" from a early life with the McCanns.

The investigator, an investigator with law enforcement who compiled the information, advised the court there "showed no any replies" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with close associates of the McCanns, according to the communication logs.

On that date, Mr McCann picked up a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "the wrong phone."

On that occasion Ms Wandelt left a message on Mrs McCann's voicemail saying "I will persist and I will prove my point."

Court proceedings
Kate and Gerry McCann provided testimony to the court from using a security measure on Wednesday

The court heard the co-defendant struck up a connection through digital means with Ms Wandelt before joining her on a appearance to the McCanns' property in Leicestershire in December 2024.

Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had reached out via communication app to Mrs McCann to state the press had characterized Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she deserved to be treated respectfully in the period leading up to the appearance to the village, that area, in December 2024.

The court was told communications between the two accused, in November 2024, considering trying to get Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her garbage or from silverware at a eating establishment.

"We must take action," Mrs Spragg advised Ms Wandelt.

On the occasion of the appearance to their house, Mrs Spragg sent a communication which expressed: "We are positioned adjacent to the McCanns' home with our lights out resembling detectives. I wanted to achieve this with Peter Andrew I hadn't anticipated I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."

The trial continues.
